Figure 1:
The MetaCheck as a useful addition to nutritional counsellor [%]
Modified according to [1]
The CoGAP MetaCheck® allows to issue a nutrition and exercise recommendation, which is adapted to the individual genetic disposition and thus provides each doctor, pharmacist and nutrition / fitness consultant the possibility to include the factor of genetics in his or her nutritional counseling. In an empirical study[1] nearly 96% of all counsellors said that they see the MetaCheck as a useful complement to their nutritional counseling (Figure 1).

Prerequisites for becoming a CoGAP partner:

To become a CoGAP partner you must already be involved in the practice of nutritional counseling, for example, as a physician, non-medical practitioner, personal trainer, nutritionist or nutritional counselor. Also, you must have completed relevant training. Additional requirements include:

  • If you are a personal trainer, nutritionist or nutritional counselor, we require that you have earned a certificate recognized by the DGE (German Nutrition Society) or equivalent.
  • You must be working in compliance with the generally recognized standards in the area of nutritional counseling (e.g. according to the code of conduct set by the VDOe for nutritionists, the code of conduct for physicians or equivalent codes of professional conduct).

Should you be interested in establishing cooperation with CoGAP®, please contact us.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where and how do I get the necessary medical analysis kits?
  • As a physician you can order the necessary analysis kits for performing the CoGAP MetaCheck® directly from the laboratory CTL und Ortholabor GmbH. The CoGAP MetaCheck® kits are then sent to you via courier.
  • In which form will the cooperation occur and how can I resign/cancel it?
  • CoGAP® makes a written cooperation agreement with his non-medical partners in which the framework of the partnership is fixed. The agreement can be resigned at any time by adherence to the cancellation period (usually three months).

Physicians are able to perform the CoGAP MetaCheck® without a cooperation agreement via CTL und Ortholabor GmbH laboratory.

  • How much does the CoGAP MetaCheck® cost?
  • Due to professional rules and guidelines there must be a distinction among physicians and nutritionists:

For physicians the CoGAP MetaCheck® is offered as a personalized service. Apart from the mere laboratory analysis costs for the patient, there are also costs incurring for the medical consultation and the collection of the salvia sample according to the respective medical fee schedule. The price to be paid by a counselor to other advisers (dietitians, personal trainers etc.) depends on the quantity and quality of the needed counseling. For more information, please contact us directly.

  • Can the CoGAP MetaCheck® also diagnose diseases?
  • No. The CoGAP MetaCheck® only analyzes those genes that are associated with weight loss and genes which can be influenced by the diet. Genes that are used to predict diseases are excluded from those analyzed in the CoGAP MetaCheck®.
  • How long does it take to perform the genetic metabolism analysis?
  • Once we have your declaration of consent and your buccal swab sample, the analysis of the sample in the partner laboratory usually takes two weeks. CoGAP® strives to finish the CoGAP MetaCheck® as soon as possible and then sends it to your advisor.
  • What samples are required for the CoGAP MetaCheck®?
  • For the CoGAP MetaCheck® DNA analysis only a buccal swab sample is required.
  • What costs occur for me as a CoGAP® partner?
  • Due to professional rules and guidelines there must be a distinction among physicians and nutritionists:

Physicians don't have direct costs implementing the analysis because the analysis will be invoiced to the patient by the laboratory and the cost of consultancy and cheek swab will be charged from the patients by the physician himself.

Nutritionists, in comparison, bear direct costs for carrying out the genetic analysis due to the different billing procedure. Nevertheless, costs only occur if such an analysis has been commissioned.

  • Why doesn't CoGAP® use blood samples?
  • The amount of DNA needed for the CoGAP MetaCheck® can be provided through an already established process by using a buccal swab sample. Thus, CoGAP® can avoid inconveniences and risks of infection which are associated with blood collection.
  • How is the anonymity of my clients ensured?
  • Since all the samples sent to CoGAP® are only provided with a barcode, it is impossible for CoGAP® to identify your clients. In addition, the sample material will be destroyed after the analysis!
